چکیده

The oxidation of o-xylene to phthalic anhydride is one of the important industrial processes based on selective oxidation reactions. For the last 50 years vanadia titania catalysts have been used in this process. The reaction parameters like temperature range of operation, reactor inlet pressure, contact time, etc. slightly changed during this continuous process optimization. However, the fundamental understanding of the byproduct formation is still an open task. By using a sample port pilot plant, a detailed investigation was conducted for the first time of the by-product formation at different operation conditions. Several hitherto unknown intermediates could unambiguously be identified. The combination of process conditions and by-product formation enables the discussion of a new improved reaction scheme for the catalytic oxidation of o-xylene.

Two types of vanadia are present in fresh V20JIi02(anatase) catalysts calcined at 450°C: surface vanadia coordinated to the TiOz support and small crystallites of V205 (1, 2). The surface vanadia is the active site for the oxidation of o-xylene to phthalic anhydride (I, 3, 4). The surface vanadia is more active and selective than the VZOfi crystallites for the o-xylene oxidation reaction (I). T...

Simulation of -Xylene Oxidation into Phthalic Anhydride: Rigorous Multitubular Catalytic Reactor Modelling and Exportation into the Process Flowsheet

Abstract The aim of this case study is to develop a process model including both heat integration and separation processes by means of ASPEN PLUS simulation software. Previous studies have attempted to develop kinetic models or to retrieve optimal policies for operating the process multitubular catalytic fixed-bed reactor. This time a rigorous model is developed in ASPEN CUSTOM MODELER and expo...

Highly crystalline vanadium phosphate catalysts synthesized using polyIJacrylic acid-co-maleic acid) as a structure directing agent

Vanadium phosphate catalysts have been widely studied for the selective oxidation of alkanes to a variety of products, including maleic and phthalic anhydride. More recently they are starting to find use as low temperature liquid phase oxidation catalysts. For all these applications the synthesis of the precursor is key to the performance of the final catalyst. Changes in the preparation proced...

V2O5-MoO3 Catalysts Preparation and Performance Testing on the Oxidation of Benzene to Maleic Anhydride in a Fixed Bed Reactor

In this research, the selective oxidation of benzene to maleic anhydride (MAN) in a fixed-bed reactor was studied. The gas phase catalytic oxidation of benzene was carried outin a laboratory scale fixed bed reactor on the catalysts, which were prepared having two different compositions on silica gel. The effects of temperature, flow rates of benzene and air, and catalyst type on the reactio...
